Offshore Racing Crew Course.

The ISAF Offshore course, developed to provide training for skippers and crews who encounter rough weather and problems at sea, was proposed following the 1998 Sydney Hobart Race, in which six lives were lost.

 

Following your successful completion of the two day course you will be issued with the RYA / ISAF offshore racing crew certificate.

 

This certificate confirms crew eligibility under section 6.01 and 6.02 of the RYA / ISAF special regulations.

THESE REQUIRE AT LEAST 30% OF THE CREW TO HAVE TAKEN PERSONAL SURVIVAL TRAINING.

 

The course consists of three parts:

First Aid

bullet

Seamanship and Survival

Time required:

bullet

1 Day

bullet

1/2 Day

bullet

1/2 Day

 

Course Content :

bullet

preparation for survival

bullet

theory & practice of lifejackets

bullet

search and rescue

bullet

a two-hour session in a swimming pool with a liferaft (as in the 1 day basic sea survival course)

bullet

a 1/2 day covering heavy weather seamanship, emergencies and weather forecasting

bullet

a 1/2 day covering emergency first aid

Offshore Racing Crew Course.

 

After the Course you will have a good knowledge of:

bullet

the safety equipment carried on small boats

bullet

the seamanship techniques needed to survive at sea in heavy weather

bullet

emergency & primary care first aid

bullet

basic principles of meteorology terminology, weather systems, local and general weather effects

bullet

basic principles of yacht stability
